Thyroid
Question: For the past year or so I have been becoming
increasingly tired. I have also noticed that when I brush my
hair, a lot of my hair comes out in the brush. Can you help me?
Answer: Your symptoms are not uncommon and are
probably accompanied by many more of which you may not have yet
become aware. Three things come to mind immediately.
1. What drugs are you taking? There are several categories of
prescription medications that sometimes cause these problems.
2. Blood pressure pills could be the cause, especially if you
have taken them over a long period of time. Most of them also have
the side effect of decreasing sexual ability. Another class of
drugs that may cause these problems is antidepressants.
Cholesterol lowering drugs can also do this because they work by
interfering with certain functions of the liver, which can cause
many other side effects also.
3. Probably the most common reason I find for these symptoms
(especially in women over 55 or 60 years of age—but it occurs in
men also) is the need for natural thyroid. As we get older the
endocrine glands (of which the thyroid is one) gradually decrease
their output and since the thyroid is what I call the Master Gland
of the body, many symptoms result. The two mentioned above are
just the beginning of a long list of symptoms that can occur.
Those listed below are some of the more common ones:
Fatigue
Weight gain
Constipation
Dry skin
Brittle nails
Cold hands and feet
Lack of sex drive
Impotence
Fibromyalgia symptoms
Abnormal menstrual function
Amenorrhea
Poor concentration
Parasthesias
Aching joints
Fluid retention
Hair loss
If you have many or most of these symptoms you should look up a
good nutritionally oriented physician and let him determine your
thyroid status. Unfortunately, blood tests don’t always give us
the answer. The patient’s appearance, symptoms and basal
temperature are an important part of the diagnosis and lots of
doctors only consider the blood tests. It is also important to
take the natural Armour Thyroid because the synthetic ones, which
are the most commonly used, are only part of the hormone.
