Q & A archiveRitalin

Question: Our children are being put on Ritalin almost as routine to keep them focused. What vitamins and minerals and supplements are better alternatives?

Answer: It is a national disgrace that the medical profession with the encouragement of the school systems and the pharmaceutical companies are putting little children on Ritalin instead of taking some time to teach the parents and the schools what is causing the Hyperactive and ADD problems and how to prevent and correct it nutritionally. You should read my book “Letters to My Patients” and learn the general philosophy of good living habits and good health. It has specific references to Ritalin and ADD etc and how to treat it. Another very good book on the Subject is a book written by May Ann Block D.O. called “No More Ritalin.”

Most of the inattention problems and inability of children to focus is strictly nutritionally caused. Most of these children are consuming copius quantities of sugar foods such as soda pop (one of the worst), candy, cake, cookies, white flour foods etc. and eat far too little of the foods that nurture the nervous system like whole grain breads, meat and eggs (one of our best brain foods), fresh vegetables, fresh fruits and nuts. Some of the supplements mentioned in my book for this condition: B Vitamins, Calcium and Magnesium, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and the Omega 3 fatty acid foods like fish and Flaxseed Oil or Cod Liver Oil. Brewer’s Yeast is also a good supplement for this problem.

We should get and keep our children healthy with a good food intake instead of trying to cover up problems of our own making with drugs!
