Q & A archive—Reactive
Hypoglycemia
Question: My wife has spells where she gets too tired
to function, can't stay awake, slurring speech, throwing up, and
her knees hurt very bad, plus headache. This usually lasts for 2
or 3 days, accompanied by low blood sugar of 60 something and
pressure of 86 over 58(average). The rest of the time, she is
very quick-tempered, does not sleep very well at all, very minor
little troubles set her off on an explosion for quite a few
hours. She has long-lasting headaches for long periods of time.
She is always very tired. She is 40 years old( everything is
gone, but the ovaries). She weighs about 108 pounds. She smokes
and drinks about 6 to 8 cokes a day and is always eating candy.
I am losing my mind and the doctors are not helping! She says it
is stress, but, my God! We are torn up here!
Answer: You won’t get much help from the average
orthodox medical doctor on this one. Symptoms like this are very
typical of Reactive Hypoglycemia and most doctors don’t put much
credence in this diagnosis and try to treat it with nerve pills
and sleeping pills and antidepressants and this approach doesn’t
work.
Treatment for Reactive Hypoglycemia is very successful IF the
patient has the desire to get well and is willing to change her
eating and drinking habits. It takes some will power but if they
are truly anxious to get well, they can do it. The first thing I
would suggest is to have her read my book to learn the general
philosophy of health and particularly the chapter on Reactive
Hypoglycemia. I can tell you with certainty that no patient
can overcome this kind of a problem and continue to drink soft
drinks and eat candy and sweets (including food sweetened
with artificial sweeteners.) If such a patient will give up all
sweets for two months and eat plenty of good foods such as eggs
and meat and fresh fruits and vegetables, they will see a
drastic improvement in their health In fact, it won’t take more
than a couple weeks to see a big difference. The big problem is
resisting the sugar addiction.
Look at some of the
questions and answers on
this subject on my web site also. If you are anywhere near this
area, I would be glad to see her personally if she really wants
to get well. There could be some other problems involved here
also but the above would have to be done in any event. Good
luck.
