Q & A archive—Peripheral
Neuropathy
Question: Will you discuss peripheral neuropathy?
Answer: Peripheral Neuropathy is an interference with
the normal functioning of the peripheral nerves (generally the
nerves in the legs but also can be in the arms.) It can be
caused by several things but most commonly by Prescription
medications, Deficiency of nutritional factors—particularly the
B vitamins and Structural problems in the low back from strains
or stresses that cause interference with the nervous enervation
of the legs. Structural problems in the upper back and lower
neck vertebrae can also cause enervation problems down the arms.
It is a universal fact that most people eat far too much of
the refined sugar and flour foods which rob the body of many
necessary vitamins and minerals required to metabolize the “junk
foods.”
It is also a universal fact that most adults take far too
many prescription medications. This sometimes has to be
corrected before neuropathies can be relieved.
If it is structural problem that is causing the neuropathy,
manipulative treatment by a good osteopathic physician or
chiropractor is indicated.
Useful nutritional treatment should include the following:
Correction of the diet to eliminate the sugar and refined flour
foods and the ingestion of plenty of vegetables and fruit and
nuts and eggs.
B vitamins are very important, especially B1, B2, B6 and B12.
More effective if given with a diet high in liver and Brewer’s
Yeast and Wheat Germ.
ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid) 200 mg. tid.
Omego 3 fatty acids. Flaxseed Oil. Cod Liver Oil.
Elastic support hose.
Eliminate wheat and most grain foods from the diet.
