Q & A archiveLDL

Question: I need to lower my LDL. It is 192. What would you suggest? Thanks.

Answer: Generally speaking, the things that will lower total cholesterol will also lower the LDL and raise the HDL. First let’s keep in mind that so much of what you are being brainwashed with about cholesterol is not necessarily true. The big monied interests are making billions by keeping everyone paranoid about their cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is an essential substance in the body and it has never been proven by INDEPENDENT research that cholesterol itself is THE CAUSE of heart attacks. It is sometimes an accompanying factor. If it were the cause, how can you explain the fact that well over half of all heart attack victims have normal cholesterol levels? It is prudent to do the things that can be done for good general health and then your blood chemistry readings will generally adjust themselves to the levels that are good for YOUR body. Dr. Roger Williams PhD and renowned nutritionist taught us that we are creatures of Bio Chemical Individuality and that what is normal for one person is not necessarily normal for another. I believe that to be a very important teaching.

That having been said, in order to NORMALIZE your LDL, HDL and Cholesterol, these are some of the things that are useful:
1. If you are overweight, lose weight. This will also benefit your general health!
2. If you smoke, quit. Smoking is known to interfere with normal fat metabolism.
3. Exercise moderately on a regular basis. This benefits your general health as well as your fat levels.
4. Stop eating foods made largely from sugar and refined flour. It is carbohydrates and not NATURAL fats that raise cholesterol levels.
5. Stop eating hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated fats such as margarine, low fat and diet foods. Margarine is the biggest offender. It is the man made fats like these and not the God made fats that are killing us.
6. Eat eggs—the yolk and all. The egg yolk contains the life giving vitamins and minerals and fat metabolites that help to metabolize the bad fats.
7. Reduce the grain foods—cereals and breads etc.and when you do eat them, use only the WHOLE grain foods.
8. Eat generous amounts of fresh vegetables and fruits. Also lightly cooked vegetables.
9. Eat one handful of nuts that are grown on trees, daily. (almonds, pecans, walnuts etc.)
10. Do not be afraid of eating the natural, God made saturated fats as found in butter and meat. They are not the harmful foods that the orthodoxy has led us to believe.
11. Take a good quality Vitamin and Mineral supplement (from a Health Food Store), at least 2000 mg. of Vitamin C, at least 400 units of Vitamin E Complex and a good Mineral capsule containing at least Magnesium, Calcium and Zinc.

Try all this for a few months and you will not only feel better and overcome a lot of symptoms of poor general health but you will normalize your fat levels. Don’t get paranoid about your cholesterol levels if you are doing the necessary things to give you good general health! If you to read some of the information about cholesterol that you never see in the press or on TV, go to Dr. Mercola’s web site at: mercola.com and type “cholesterol” in the dialog box and you will have many hours of interesting reading. By the way, Dr. Mercola’s web site is a “link” to my web site. Here’s to Your Good Health and Happiness!
