Q & A archive—High
Blood Pressure
Question: I'm 49 and have hypertension. A cardiologist
put me on Cardizem, but I'm not sure if it is effective for my
high blood pressure. 160/105 average at the end of the workday.
I've already read your first book, and have corrected my food
intake. Anything else I can do to avoid the Cardizem, and the
cardiologist? Thanks!
Answer: There are lots of things that can be done to
normalize blood pressure. To do the job correctly there is a lot
of lifestyle and exercise and dietary history that I do not have.
Generally speaking, a good diet rich in raw fruits and vegetables,
at least one egg daily, a handful of mixed nuts daily and 500 to
1000 mg. of magnesium daily (if you can take it without getting
diarrhea). You MUST COMPLETELY STAY AWAY FROM SUGAR AND SODA POP
FOODS. It also helps to stop most of the grain foods--breads,
cereals, spaghetti etc. It is a much more complicated subject than
naming a few things in e-mail that can be done but they will help.
My associate (Dr. Setzler) or I would be glad to help you in
person at the office if you care to make an appointment. Blood
Pressure problems can generally be corrected in time without
depending on prescription medications.
