Q & A archive—Colon Cleansers

Question: Do you think colon cleansers are necessary?

Answer: Please read Chapter 22 in my book “Letters To My Patients.” It contains an understanding of the colon and its purpose.

Since the colon is the last part of the intestinal tract and is larger in diameter than the small intestine, it serves as the “garbage receptacle” for the food that has been eaten and already digested and utilized by the small intestine. As is true of any garbage receptacle, it should be emptied routinely or it’s contents become decayed and putrefied allowing toxins to be reabsorbed through the walls of the colon into the blood stream.

If chronic constipation has been a problem, colon cleansing can be a good procedure to get the colon emptied and clean. It should not be necessary after that if good eating habits are then established and adequate amounts of fiber foods and magnesium are taken to keep the colon emptying completely every 24 hours.
