Q & A archive—ADHD
Question: My four year old is FULL of energy to the
point where it just makes me tired. I cannot control him. He does
not eat/drink a lot of sugar; he just gets out of bed like this. I
worry about ADHD, but I do not want to put him on meds. Help! My
mom has your book and it talks about magnesium, but is there a
safe supplement for kids? The one I have says not for persons
under 18.
Answer: You say that your four year old boy doesn't eat
a lot of sugar. That can mean different things to different
people. Sugar, white flour, and milk are three of the things that
hyperactive kids cannot eat. So that means that he should be
getting NONE of these things, or at least as close to none as you
can get in today's world. Certainly NO soda pop of any kind!
Having said that, the B vitamins and magnesium are very
important in calming the nervous system. In such children, I use
two or three dropperfuls of a good children's liquid vitamin, an
extra 50 mg. of B6 (pyridoxine HCL) and start with about 50 mg. of
magnesium. The magnesium will not hurt him. If he gets too much,
he will have diarrhea. These are daily doses. Get them at a Health
Food Store.
Try the above for a few weeks and let me know what happens.
