News Flash archive—Blood Pressure

On my radio show of May 21, 2003, I read and commented on a very important new study on blood pressure that was published by the Associated Press and commented on by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and published in the official Journal of the American Medical Assn. In essence it stated that the normal for blood pressure which has been accepted by doctors and medical associations for 100 years (120/80) is now too high and that about 45,000,000 Americans who have always been considered perfectly normal are now finding that they are "prehypertensive" and potential candidates for taking prescription medication. I can only imagine how the drug companies are salivating over this one! Think of the income to be generated from possibly 45,000,000 people taking expensive hypertensive medications. I made the comment on my radio show that the whole thing smelled to me like a very lucrative scam that was about to be fed to the American public.
